Monitor and support the child's development with precision using SigmaMD's growth charts.
In Pediatric care, it's crucial to closely monitor infants, children, and adolescents development. The growth chart feature is designed to provide an easy, reliable way to track physical growth over time.
In this post, you’ll discover how growth charts benefit and how they are designed in SigmaMD.

Growth charts are tools used to track the growth and development of infants, children, and adolescents. They are graphical representations that compare a child's measurements, such as height, weight, and head circumference, to standardized growth data for children of the same age and sex. These charts help assess whether a child is growing at a healthy rate and can identify potential health issues early.
In Pediatric Direct Primary Care, physicians often offer tailored treatments when there is a growth concern, based on a comprehensive assessment of the child’s medical history and physical exams, such as blood tests to check hormone levels and X-rays to determine bone age. For some children, therapy with growth hormone may be the best way to regulate a growth disorder.
SigmaMD offers three different types of growth charts:
WHO growth charts represent how children should grow under ideal health and nutritional conditions. They provide a benchmark for comparing individual children's growth to a healthy standard.
The data used to create WHO growth charts were collected from children in six different countries (Brazil, Ghana, India, Norway, Oman, and the USA) who were raised in environments that promote optimal growth, including breastfeeding and non-smoking households.
These charts are used primarily in the United States to monitor the growth and development of children and adolescents from birth to 20 years of age.
These charts take into account the unique growth patterns associated with Down syndrome, providing Direct Care doctors with a more accurate reference for assessing and monitoring growth in these children.
In a vibrant city, Dr. Emma, a compassionate Pediatric physician, is known for her personalized care with the DPC model. Today, she’s seeing Bob, a cheerful 4-year-old with Down syndrome, for his routine growth and development check-up. Dr. Emma starts by reviewing Bob’s medical history and performing a physical exam. She then measures his key growth parameters, such as weight, height, head circumference, and BMI.
Dr. Emma uses SigmaMD’s Down Syndrome Growth Chart to plot Bob’s measurements, comparing them against standardized percentiles for children with Down syndrome. This allows her to visualize Bob’s growth pattern, which is consistent and within the expected range.
Dr. Emma discusses the growth chart with Sarah, Bob’s mother. She explains that Bob’s growth is on track and reassures her that his development is proceeding healthily. Dr. Emma downloads a PDF of the growth chart from SigmaMD and provides it to Sarah, along with a detailed data table of Bob’s previous measurements.
This helps to enhance communication and ensures that Bob’s growth is tracked accurately over time. This personalized approach not only supports Bob’s physical health but also provides peace of mind for his family, demonstrating the real-life impact of using advanced health management tools in Pediatric care.
